An allergy is an uncomfortable response or symptom by the body's immune system to an outside substance that it doesn't like. The body's defense system mobilizes white blood cells to fight these foreign invaders once identified. If exposed to or consumed that same substance for long, the body goes in overdrive mode and the immune system in high gear causing several unwanted symptoms. Thus, the allergic response becomes a nuisance in itself.
Typical allergic symptoms are nasal congestion, coughing, wheezing, itching, shortness of breath, headache, hives, and other skin rashes.
