- DHA is anti-inflammatory, which protects the brain from damage.
- It maintains the integrity of the cell membrane, which enhances communication between brain cells. This is extremely important for memory.
- It actually helps heal already-damaged brain tissue via compounds called protectins. In fact this is what DHA does as soon as the brain is damaged by stroke, seizure or any other traumatic injury. So not having enough DHA can be detrimental in these cases, since the brain cannot heal itself as efficiently as it could with healthy DHA levels.
